PDA - an excerpt

…a scene from the screen adaptation of a short play I wrote back in 2005.

INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT

OVERLAY - SOME TIME AGO

Eric lies in bed with his hands behind his head. Jules sits at the edge of the bed and dresses herself.

ERIC: You know, you’ve done better.

Jules laughs.

JULES: You mean you?

ERIC: Not such a reach, is it?

JULES: That book has been closed for a while now.

ERIC: But some books are good to pick up and re-read every now and again, right? Especially the good parts.

JULES: What about the bad parts?

ERIC: The good ones don’t have too many bad parts.

JULES: Then we’re not reading the same book.

ERIC: You don’t think there’s any lingering magic?

Eric stands and pulls Jules back into bed. He unbuttons what Jules just finished buttoning.

She stops him.

JULES: There’s no magic when you’re twenty-three…just hormones.

He unbuttons again.

ERIC: C’mon, this right here…it’s the ideal.

JULES: Ideal?

Jules stands, grabs the last of her things and makes for the door. She grabs the doorknob and looks toward Eric. The playfulness in his face has been wiped clean.

JULES: (to herself) Right.

She exits and closes the bedroom door behind her.
